The films I gravitate to the most usually resonate with me in a personal way. Even when I don’t relate to the stories and characters, there is a universal human empathy that makes a film stand out.

I think The Whale is an exceptional film and one of Darren Aronofsky’s best.

If you want to see a great slow-burn drama with ever-mounting dread and fear, then I highly recommend The Stranger.

If you are comfortable with dark subject matter, then I highly recommend Nitram.

Speak No Evil is designed to be infuriating. It is brutal, nihilistic, and bleak.

To Leslie can be a difficult watch, especially if you have any history with addiction. I think it is easily one of the best films of 2022.

This film is like a stunning painting at an art gallery. One that you admire from afar, but don’t connect with beyond that.

This is easily the strangest film I have seen this year. The director Peter Strickland has become one of my current favorites.

I haven’t loved a Spielberg film in a long time. Munich was the last time he made something I was truly enamored with.

Saloum is a delightful shotgun blast of ideas. They don’t all hit the bullseye, but their audacity and commitment carry the film through to the end.

There are some films where less than ten minutes in, you immediately have an instinctual feeling that you’re going to love it.

The Northman is exactly what I was hoping it would be. A wonderful and atmospheric tale of one man’s revenge.

I do think it could have been much more, but if you’re looking for a fun self-aware comedy, then Unbearable Weight fits the bill.

Everything Everywhere is a very good film. I completely understand why so many people love it and consider it a new favorite.

If you don’t mind your love stories having a healthy helping of gore, then this is one to watch.

There are some films you get almost immediately and don’t require any pondering. Mad God is not one of those films.
